125th Anniversary of the Berlin Africa Conference

In response to an invitation by the German government, representatives of the then-world powers assembeled in Berlin on November 15th 1884. The goal of the Berlin Conference was to decide in the spirit of mutual agreement on the further partioning and exploitation of the African continent. In the course of the following European colonialization millions of Africans were bereft of their dignity, property, and lives.

In memory of this event and its severe consequences, our alliance advocates a fundamental change regarding the societal approach towards dealing with our colonial past. We call for a comprehensive and critical reappraisal of colonialism and the roots of perpetual racism. We demand that Germany and Europe take historical responsibility for colonial injustice and initiate concrete steps towards reparation.
